Here’s an update on burglary locally. Community Burglary Prevention and brief update - Cannon Hill
We understand that hearing about an increase in burglaries can be concerning. While recent incidents have occurred in the Cannon Hill area, there are a number of simple and effective steps residents can take to help protect their homes and vehicles.
Over the last few months, a number of burglaries have been reported, mainly occurring between 10pm and 3am. In several cases, offenders have been travelling on e-bikes in groups and have targeted properties with high-value vehicles parked outside, with the intention of stealing car keys. They are accessing properties via ground floor windows and rear doors.
The good news is that good home security can be a strong deterrent. We encourage residents to review their security arrangements and consider the following:
Ensure any CCTV systems are working correctly and provide good coverage of access points. Use motion-activated lighting to illuminate driveways, side passages and rear gardens. Install a burglar alarms and ensure they are functioning properly and are set when you leave home or go to bed. Keep gates, fences and gardens secure to make access to your property more difficult. Consider window alarms or additional security measures on vulnerable ground-floor windows. Make it part of your evening routine to ensure all doors and windows are locked before going to sleep. Store keys, valuables and handbags away from doors and windows where they cannot be easily seen or reached. Consider fitting additional door security, such as deadlocks, or other approved security products. If you own a high-value vehicle, keep keys in a secure location away from the front door and consider using additional vehicle security devices such as wheel clamps, Bollards and 3rd party security systems.
Please remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, particularly groups acting suspiciously on e-bikes during late evening or early morning hours. If a crime is in progress or there is an immediate risk to safety, always call 999.
By working together as a community and taking a few sensible precautions, we can help reduce opportunities for offenders and keep Cannon Hill a safe place to live. Thank you for your continued support and vigilance.
