Proactive Action in St Giles and Tottenham Court Road Area

Proactive Action in St Giles and Tottenham Court Road Area

Here’s a quick update on anti-social behaviour locally. We know it can be distressing, but we’re working closely with partners to make the area safer and support residents.

Acting on current information and intelligence relating to illegal street trading, drug supply concerns, and ongoing anti-social behaviour (ASB), officers conducted a targeted operation in the St Giles and Lower Tottenham Court Road (TCR) area.

Intelligence indicated that the location was being used for illegal street trading and may also have been facilitating drug supply activity. Additional information suggested the presence of a drugs line linked to activity across the area, with individuals travelling through St Giles and, in some cases, extending towards Bloomsbury. This activity sits alongside ongoing concerns regarding drug-related crime and ASB in the Bainbridge Street, New Oxford Street, St Giles, and Tottenham Court Road areas.

To address these issues, a section 35 dispersal authority was put in place, providing officers with proportionate tactical options to prevent and reduce crime, disorder, and associated anti-social behaviour across the area for 48 hours.

Results of the operation:
• 4 stop searches conducted
• 6 individuals dispersed from the area
• The seizure of a substantial quantity of products/items associated with the illegal trading activity.
• The seizure of more than 100 pre-made and clear bottles, together with additional clear bottles that had been prepared and displayed for illegal sale.
• Two individuals were issued with Anti-Social Behaviour Warning Notices, providing a formal intervention and clear warning regarding their conduct.
• Two Fixed Penalty Notices were issued in response to identified offences.
• Intelligence and evidence gathered during the operation will support continued monitoring and further enforcement activity against individuals who return to the area.

This operation demonstrates the joint working with Camden council, Bloomsbury and Holborn & Covent Garden Neighbourhoods teams continued commitment to tackling crime, anti-social behaviour, and illegal trading, while responding directly to community concerns and intelligence-led policing priorities. The action taken has helped disrupt criminality, improve the local environment, and provide reassurance to residents, businesses, and visitors using the area.

Across London we’ve put hundreds more officers on the frontlines of community crime-fighting teams, upping visible patrols in the right ‘hot spots’ so we can deter and catch criminals - including with new tech like live facial recognition cameras, drones and e-bikes.

Antisocial behaviour can come in many forms and can require support from more organisations than just the police. A full list of what we categorise as antisocial behaviour is available on our website.
