Community Safety Update: Arrest Made in Child Exploitation and Modern Slavery Investigation

I would like to update the community regarding a recent arrest made by officers from the Ealing Safer Neighbourhood Team.

On Tuesday 22nd September 2026, officers arrested a male in Hanwell on suspicion of offences under the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and the Child Abduction Act 1984. The arrest relates to allegations that a young person was groomed and exploited through social media, encouraged to become involved in criminal activity, and provided with accommodation whilst reported missing.

A mobile phone believed to be linked to the investigation was also seized.

Whilst this remains an active investigation and we are unable to comment further on the evidence at this stage, this arrest demonstrates our commitment to safeguarding children and vulnerable young people from exploitation. Child criminal exploitation can take many forms, including grooming through social media, the offering of gifts or money, and the manipulation of young people into criminal activity.

We would encourage parents, carers and residents to remain vigilant and report any concerns regarding child exploitation, missing children, or suspicious activity involving young people. Information provided by the community plays a vital role in helping police protect those at risk and bring offenders to justice.
