Volkswagen Badge Thefts |
||
|
Dear Wandsworth Common Community,
On 02/08/2026 local resident on Wandsworth Common ward reported that the front Volkswagen badge/emblem had been stolen from their vehicle whilst parked on SKELBROOK STREET SW18 overnight. This incident is consistent with a recent pattern of thefts involving VW front badges, particularly from VW Golf, Passat and other newer VW models. These badges are known to contain integrated radar sensors and driver-assistance technology, increasing their value and making them attractive targets for offenders. The theft appears to have been a targeted offence with the offender removing only the badge assembly and causing inconvenience and financial loss to the vehicle owner. Residents owning Volkswagen vehicles should be made aware of this trend and encouraged to remain vigilant, review any available CCTV or dashcam footage and report any suspicious activity involving individuals loitering around or interfering with parked vehicles. Criminals are targeting these badges because they contain sensors used for driver assistance systems such as adaptive cruise control. The theft of the badge can cause significant damage to the vehicle and may result in costly repairs.
How to Protect Your Vehicle ✅ Park in a secure, well-lit location where possible. ✅ Consider using a garage or monitored parking facility. ✅ Ensure any CCTV or doorbell cameras covering your vehicle are operational. ✅ Report any suspicious activity, especially individuals loitering near parked vehicles during late evening or early morning hours. ✅ If your badge has been stolen, report the incident to the police and your insurance provider promptly.
Reporting Information If you witness suspicious behaviour or have information regarding these thefts, please report it via: 999 if a crime is in progress. 101 for non-emergency reporting.
