Here’s an update on burglary locally. We would like to make residents aware of a recent increase in opportunistic burglaries across the Finsbury Park area.
With the recent warm weather, many people are leaving doors, windows and garden access points open to help keep their homes cool. Unfortunately, offenders are taking advantage of these opportunities to gain quick and easy access to properties.
Many burglaries are committed opportunistically, with offenders specifically looking for insecure doors, open windows, or valuable items left on display.
How to Protect Your Home:
✅ Lock all doors whenever you leave your property, even if only for a short period of time.
✅ Secure accessible windows, particularly those on the ground floor, before leaving a room or going out.
✅ Do not leave keys in locks or within sight of doors and windows.
✅ Keep valuable items out of view, including mobile phones, laptops, handbags, wallets, jewellery and car keys.
✅ Lock side gates and garden access points where possible to prevent offenders accessing the rear of your property.
✅ Ensure sheds, garages and outbuildings are secured, especially where tools, bicycles or other high-value items are stored.
✅ Consider using timers for lights if you are away from home for long periods.
✅ Be vigilant and report suspicious activity. If you see someone acting suspiciously around homes, trying door handles, looking into vehicles or properties, please report it.
Vehicle Security:
We are also reminding residents not to leave vehicle keys near front doors, windows or hallways. Store them out of sight and away from entry points. Always lock your vehicle, even when parked on your driveway.
Report Crime!
If a burglary is in progress or there is an immediate threat to life, call 999.
For non-emergency reporting, please contact police on 101 or report online via the Metropolitan Police website.
By taking a few simple precautions, we can all help reduce the risk of becoming a victim of burglary and keep our community safe.
