Your local police teams are continuing focused prevention work across the borough to help keep you, your family, and your neighbours safe. We’re asking everyone to take a few simple steps that make a big difference in reducing burglary, robbery, and violence against a person, including knife‑related harm.

🏠 Burglary Prevention – Protect Your Home

Most burglars look for easy opportunities. These quick actions help remove them:

Lock doors and windows — even when you’re at home or popping out

Keep keys and bags away from letterboxes and open windows

Use timers for lights if your home is empty in the evening

Store valuables out of sight, especially near ground‑floor windows

Record serial numbers of bikes, tools, laptops and phones on Immobilise.com

Consider simple upgrades: door reinforcements, window locks, CCTV or video doorbells

If you see someone acting suspiciously near homes, vehicles, or alleyways, report it straight away on 101 or online.

📱 Robbery Prevention – Stay Sharp, Stay Aware

Phone and bag snatches often happen when people are distracted. Please:

Avoid holding your phone at the edge of pavements

Keep bags zipped and worn across your body

Stay alert at transport hubs and busy public places

If something feels off, move towards people, staff, or well‑lit areas

Call 999 if you’re in danger or witness a crime happening right now

Your awareness can prevent you — or someone else — from becoming a target.

Knife crime affects communities, families and young people. Our aim is prevention.

You can help by:

Looking out for young people who might be at risk or isolated

Talking openly with teens about safety, choices, and peer pressure

Reporting places where weapons might be hidden or dumped

Letting us know if you’re worried someone is being exploited or groomed
