Scams awareness - with AgeUK |
||
|
Dear Resident,
This week, West End and St James's Neighbourhood Officers, alongside our friends at AgeUK, discussed scams and fraud at a coffee morning in Central London. Attendees from all over the city discussed their own experiences - from text messages and cold calls, to impersonation and email scams.
We also covered door-to-door scams, where rogue traders arrive offering their services and either overcharge or don't provide the service at all after taking payment up-front. Our main message here is take some time to decide whether you need what they are offering, seek advice, and have the confidence to say “no thank you!”.
There are ten golden rules we encourage everyone to keep in mind:
If you spot a scam or have been a victim, contact Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or actionfraud.police.uk. If the suspect is still present call the police. and others may be helped by you speaking up. If you or someone you know what fallen victim to a scam - do not be embarrassed - you are not alone. Please report to the Police if there is a suspect still present by calling 999.
Then make a Report Fraud report: 0300 123 2040 or visit reportfraud.police.uk To report as a non-emergency call 101 or visit met.police.uk.
These sessions aim to encourage people to stay alert and seek advice. Look out for more talks coming up in the Spring!
