Prolific Shoplifter Arrested |
||
|
I wanted to provide you an update regarding Shoplifting, which members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey. A prolific shoplifter who targeted Greggs shops in Lewisham and Greenwich repeatedly over the last year was arrested by officers from the Woolwich Town Centre Team on Tuesday 26th January. After reviewing and compiling evidence, the male was charged with 33 counts of theft and three racially aggravated public order offences. He was remanded to prison by the Court the next day. CCTV evidence provided by Greggs was key in bringing these charges and your local police continue to collaborate with stores to tackle shoplifters. Prolific offenders are also at risk of receiving Criminal Behaviour Orders which are actively sought by the police in order to reduce crime and antisocial behaviour in town centres and elsewhere. Shoplifting is a crime that can have a substantial negative impact on local businesses across London. If you notice anything suspicious or witness anyone shoplifting, please report it as soon as possible. These reports are invaluable in letting us build a picture of when and where shop lifters operate, meaning we can be in the right place at the right time to arrest those responsible.
