Local Priorities Burglary Update

Thank you for taking the local priority survey recently, your ongoing feedback about local issues of concern is vital in order to enable us to target resources effectively. Although you did not raise burglary as a concern in your last feedback, this issue has been raised by other members of your local area so we thought you would also like to receive this update.

Dear Preston,
Burglary is always one of the main concerns in all our minds when we think of crime.

Preston Safer Neighbourhood Team are happy to announce that burglary levels in Preston remain low and are decreasing! We are currently sitting on 48.39% below the two year average for Burglary Offences. This reflects the continued positive impact of our proactive work in the area and the support of the local community.

This is Preston's lowest burglary figures since at least Jan 2023. To keep these Burglary Offences as low as possible please read the crime prevention advice below.

Although you did not raise burglary as a concern in your last feedback, this issue has been raised by other members of your local area so we thought you would also like to receive this update.

A number of people in the area have told us they are worried about burglary. We know that this can be an upsetting or frightening idea, but we are here to help.  

While we will continue to pursue burglars in the area, there are steps you can do to help keep your property safe. Make sure that you:  

• Double lock your door every time you leave the house  

• If you can, move garden furniture or bins away from windows so that thieves cannot use them to gain access.  

• Use laminated glass or security film on ground floor and accessible windows.  

• Use a sash stop if you have sash windows to prevent people opening them enough to climb through.  

• If your windows open outwards, use a key operated lock – check these are locked before leaving the house.  

• Make sure all valuables are out of sight. 

• Keep handbags and keys away from letterboxes or cat flaps.  

• In the evening shut the curtains and leave lights on.  

• Set your burglar alarm 

• Lock your  shed or garage 

• Mark, register or record your valuables.
