Local Priorities Shoplifting Concern Update |
||
Dear Resident, Thank you for taking the local priority survey recently, we note that you highlighted Shoplifting in the survey so we wanted to provide you with an update on this local matter. On 29/07/2025 while out in Chrisp Street Market signing people up to the MetEngage platform officers from Lansbury, Poplar and Limehouse SNT's were alerted to a Male who had just shoplifted from a shop in the market. A male and his female companion were detained and after getting the facts from the relevant parties they were both arrested. The Male was arrested for Burglary (as he had been banned from entering the shop) and the female was arrested for Handling stolen goods. The investigation is ongoing Local shops play a big role in the community as they’re some of the most dynamic and accessible places in the city. A place that can become as familiar as your home. As such we want to make sure these areas are protected throughout all hours of the day and night. If you notice anything suspicious or witness anyone shoplifting, please report it as soon as possible. These reports are invaluable in letting us build a picture of when and where shop lifters operate, meaning we can be in the right place at the right time to arrest those responsible.
For more guidance, see our page on how to spot a shoplifter.
