Theft of Motorbikes and Mopeds |

Dear Resident,
Hope you are well.
RE: Increase in Motorcycle Thefts – Please Stay Vigilant
We are writing to inform you of a recent rise in motorcycle thefts across Twickenham, specifically between 23/07/2025 and 25/07/2025. Three motor bikes were stolen from Sidney Road TW1, 88 St Margarets Grove TW1 and Bridge Road TW1. These incidents have become a growing concern, and we are working closely with response team units and neighbourhood partners to address the issue.
While investigations are ongoing and patrols have been increased in targeted areas, we are urging all residents—especially motorcycle and scooter owners—to take extra precautions to protect their property.
Security Advice for Motorcycle and Scooter Owners:
To help reduce the risk of theft, please consider the following security measures: 1. Lock it – Always! Use a high-quality disc lock or heavy-duty chain, even if you’re leaving your bike for a short period. 2. Double up on security: Using more than one type of lock (e.g., a disc lock and a chain lock) makes your bike a harder target. 3. Anchor it at home: If possible, secure your bike to a fixed object such as a ground anchor in a garage or a secure area on your property. 4. Cover your bike: A weatherproof motorcycle cover makes your bike less visible and more time-consuming for thieves to target. 5. Install an alarm or tracker: Many modern alarms will alert you instantly if your bike is tampered with, and GPS trackers significantly improve recovery rates. 6. Be mindful of where you park: Use well-lit areas, CCTV-monitored spaces, and official motorcycle bays whenever available.
What You Can Do: • Report suspicious behaviour to the police on 101, or call 999 if a crime is in progress. • Speak with neighbours and encourage them to be vigilant, especially at night or early in the morning. • Join or follow local Neighbourhood Watch updates for your area through the borough’s official channels or social media groups.
These thefts are often carried out quickly and by organised groups, so anything we can do as a community to deter and report activity is extremely valuable.
If you have been affected or need further support, please contact: Richmond Police – Non-Emergency: 101 Online Crime Reporting: www.met.police.uk Or reach out to your local Safer Neighbourhood Team.
Thank you for your attention and cooperation in keeping Twickenham Riverside safe.
Kind regards
