Local Priorities Dangerous dogs Message

I wanted to provide an update regarding Dangerous dogs, which people around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey.

Wanstead Park SNT understand how worried and shocked the community are in relation to the recent dog attacks over the weekend on Wanstead Flats.

Please be rest assured that we are taking this very seriously. We want our community to feel safe and be able to go for a run, walk, take the children out to play and take their dogs for walks.

We would like to take this opportunity to let you know that we are facilitating patrols in the area, we are liaising with our key partner such as the Epping Forest Constables for further patrols.

Please call 999 in an emergency or 101 for non-emergency should you come across something of similar nature.

It’s an offence to let a dog be dangerously out of control whether that’s in public or private.

A dog is considered to be out of control if it:

  • injures someone
  • makes someone worried that it might injure them

A court could also decide that your dog is dangerously out of control if:

  • it attacks someone’s animal
  • the owner of an animal thinks they could be injured if they tried to stop your dog attacking their animal

In the UK, it's against the law to own certain types of dogs and this is dependent on what it looks like, rather than its breed or name.

If you see a dog loose or if you think someone has and/or is breeding banned dogs, please report this online. If the dog seems to be out of control, let us know by calling 101.
