Local Priorities Dangerous driving / speeding Message

I wanted to provide you with an update regarding dangerous driving and speeding, which some members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey.

On Saturday 5th July in the early hours of the morning, following their later shift to address ASB in Enfield Town, officers from Enfield Town Safer Neighbourhoods Team and an MPS Special Constable discovered a road traffic collision on the northbound carriageway of the A10 Great Cambridge Road at the junction with Southbury Road. The lone female driver was arrested by our new officer PC Boateng for failing to provide a specimen of breath contrary to section 7(6) of the Road Traffic Act 1988 and Schedule 2 of the Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988. The vehicle was recovered to a car pound and the carriageway cleared. Later in custody the driver failed an Evidential Breath Test providing results of 58 and 57 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, exceeding the prescribed limit. The driver is being charged with the offence of driving a motor vehicle when alcohol level above limit contrary to section 5(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Act 1988 and Schedule 2 to the Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988. The driver has been bailed whilst further enquiries are undertaken by investigating officers. In total the team worked an 18.5 hour shift.

If someone is driving a motor vehicle, they should always be doing so in a safe and considerate manner. Even momentary lapses in judgement can have life changing or devastating consequences for those in the vehicle or innocent bystanders.

Activities such as street racing, cruising or performing tricks can count as anti-social behaviour. If you are concerned about this in your area, visit our website for the latest guidance and how you can report this. You can also report dangerous driving in your area.
